As of this year the energy company obligation has introduced the Great British Insulation Scheme which enables those on lower council tax bands to make the most of installation measures to save money all funded by energy suppliers.

About the scheme

The Great British Insulation Scheme is an add-on to existing ECO scheme support and focuses primarily on insulation measures, as it is the quickest and cheapest way to reduce fuel poverty and help residents with their energy bills. It is the UK government’s latest scheme to help create more energy-efficient homes with accessible insulation measures.

Paying for insulation

Fortunately, if you meet the Great British Insulation Scheme criteria, you’ll pay little to nothing for loft insulation as the measures taken under the scheme are paid for by your energy supplier. If you have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D or below and your property resides in the lower council tax bands (A-D in England, or A-E in Scotland and Wales) you will be eligible for support under the scheme.
