Top Tips To Reduce Your Fuel Bills This Winter
15th February 2022 | Energy Saving Tips
As the weather gets colder and we start using our heating more, our fuel bills go up. But there are things we can do to help reduce the amount of money we spend on energy.

Get an energy evaluation for your home
An energy evaluation will help you figure out where heat is escaping from your home and where you can make improvements. After getting an energy evaluation and making the changes the auditors suggest, you can usually expect to see a big drop in your fuel expenditures.
Install a thermostat that can be programmed
A programmable thermostat lets you lower the temperature in your home automatically when you’re not there or when everyone is sleeping. This can save you a lot of money on your heating cost over the winter.
Insulate your house
You can save up to £580 a year by making sure your loft is well insulated and there are no draughts. And don’t panic, there is funding available for insulation grants.
Get a Smart meter
Smart metres tell you in pounds and pence how much energy you’re using, so you can plan your budget accordingly.
Use an extension cord
You can save up to £30 a year if you turn off electronics at the plug.
Check for draughts
You can save up to £25 a year by checking for draughts around doors and windows and sealing them.
Don’t heat rooms you aren’t in
Close the door to a room you’re not using to keep the heat in and save up to £7 or £8 per room, per day.
Look for leaks
Your water bill might go up by 21p a day if you have a water leak, so check sure everything is in good shape.
Don’t heat your home with your oven
It costs a lot to run and doesn’t work very well. Instead, try cheaper things like raising the blinds during the day or putting on warmer clothes inside.
Dry your clothing outside
Free power from the sun! If it’s not sunny enough, try using an indoor drying rack or clothes horse instead of putting your towels in the tumble dryer which could add an extra 13p to your electricity bill each time.

By following these simple tips, you could see a significant reduction in your fuel bills this winter! So don’t be afraid to crank down that thermostat and put on an extra jumper – it’ll be worth it when those bills come in!
