Friday marked the beginning of the Warmer Homes Project. As of now, Residential Energy Services’ mobile community energy advice program is out and about delivering energy efficiency advice to communities with the most vulnerable homes.
It all started at Keele Hall’s Climate Expo and Sustainability Conference
“It’s a real honour to be here. To see the launch of this, which we can all agree is much needed. It’s fantastic to be part of the program. There are 36 of these projects happening up and down the country, nine happening in the Midlands. It’s really wonderful to see this type of thing happening. And it really proves how collaboration between local authorities, through central government, through private businesses, through charities, through communities, all of those people working together can really show how much of a benefit we can have to people’s wellbeing, people’s lives, and making a real impact.”
Jack Hayhoe - Midlands Net Zero Hub
“This really is a success for Socially Grown in terms of securing a big government grant. There aren’t that many of these, both nationally or in the region. It’s such good synergy to all the work we’ve been doing at Keele to drive sustainability, through technological things, but also through changing people’s behaviours. And so I really want to congratulate Socially Grown. It’s fantastic to have them on our campus, because it really is such a good synergy to what we’re doing.”
Mark Ormerod - Deputy Vice Chancellor of Keele University
Our community energy advice service is funded by UKGOV via the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and is managed via the Midlands Net Zero Hub.
Am I eligible for the government’s Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)?
This is one of 36 nationally awarded Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) programs. These programs are designed to help people in fuel poor households gain access to energy efficiency support. Hard to reach and hard to treat homes often don’t have quick and easy access to energy efficiency and funding support. We aim to change that, by bringing the support to them, using our mobile service driven by local energy experts.
What can I expect from the service?
During our many visits to community centres and public events throughout Staffordshire, Shropshire and beyond in the months and years to come, expect impartial, detailed advice about how to improve the energy efficiency of your home, reducing your carbon footprint and reducing the cost of your bills at the same time. If you have a question about insulation, solar panelling or your boiler, we’re here to help. Alternatively, if you just want to find out what funding is available for you and how to secure free home upgrades via programmes such as ECO4 or the Great British Insulation Scheme, we will be on hand to assist with that also. Perhaps you’re just curious about how solar panels work, and you’d like to take a look at one! Any questions and support you need regarding energy efficiency will now be much easier to access.
How will that help me reduce my energy bills?
It has become common knowledge that a well insulated home reduces energy bills by lowering the pressure on energy intensive appliances at home. A comfortable home also has direct links to a healthier lifestyle. As winter fuel season approaches, it’s important to spread awareness of the benefits available and the funding available to make the benefits of energy efficiency available to those who need it the most. If you are living in a cold, uncomfortable home, if you are suffering from poor insulation or with outdated heating technology that costs too much to run, this energy advice service is for you. Look out for Residential Energy Services in your area in the coming weeks and months.
